Starting January 2018, WhatsApp will not be operational in a number of mobile phones. These mobile phones include the following: BlackBerry OS, BlackBerry 10, Windows Phone 8.0 and older. WhatsApp will stop supporting these phones claiming that these ageing phones will not be compatible with the several updates and enhancements that the application plans to go through in the future. WhatsApp has been working since 2009, witnessing an outstanding growth of its users every year.
WhatsApp stated in an official statement: “This was a tough decision for us to make, but the right one in order to give people better ways to keep in touch with friends, family, and loved ones using WhatsApp. ” WhatsApp further addressed its affected users saying: “If you use one of these affected mobile devices, we recommend upgrading to a newer Android, iPhone, or Windows Phone to continue using WhatsApp.” WhatsApp has been witnessing a series of updates which are aiming at making it better and better.
It is worthy to be noted that these phones were supposed to be not supported by WhatsApp back in December 2016. However, this deadline was extended till June 2017. It was then further extended till the end of 2017. However, it seems that this time, WhatsApp was determined to stop supporting these affected phones once and for all. Therefore, 2018 became a year with no WhatsApp for any one holding a BlackBerry OS, BlackBerry 10, Windows Phone 8.0 and older phone.
